Praying for God’s Favor

By Rebecca Y. Windle

Does God favor you? Last night, the Taylors and I sat in their living room, listening to Joel Olsteen’s sermon on God’s favor. He was relating events where God’s favor was working in his life. On Houston’s freeway in a traffic jam, being favored for a better seat on a plane. His stories were all about God favoring him, time and time again.

My mind was rushing through to times God had favored me. Yes, its true, I could not live one day without God’s favor like losing small things around the house. He always tells me exactly where it is. He has taken away all fear I ever had of living alone. I can hear Him say, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Over and over in His word He tells us to take our anxieties and problems to Him. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving , present your request to God .” PhIl 4:6

When trouble comes, turn your problems into prayers. When once you’ve prayed about a problem, don’t expect angels to finish any unfinished job–go after the job God has given you. Continue to work for it is God who works in you.” Phil. 2:12-13 .

If you have a situation in your life that needs to be resolved, share it with a friend or family member. We are so like the man who came to his pastor with his problems. This wise man read Matt. 6 to him, where it tells of God’s care for the birds of the air and lilies of the fields. Then he read verse 33. “Seek you first the kingdom of God: and all these things will be added unto you.”

“That’s it!” the man exclaimed.  “I’ve left God out. I’m going back to serving Him.”
