Come and Rest, Part III; Part II References

By Brenda B Taylor

Matthew 11:28-30
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.” (NLT)

At the end of a long day teaching school or performing the duties of an elementary school principal, raising children, and taking care of my husband, rest became a cherished blessing. Jesus offers the same to you. Freedom from the burdens of rules and regulations. Freedom to worship Him, to love instead of hate, to forgive instead of hold grudges or take revenge, and to offer the sacrifice of praise to our Lord as your conscience dictates.

Jesus frees people from the burden of the law. The rest that He promises is love, healing, and peace with God, not the end of a job or release from work. He wants you to work in His kingdom. A relationship with God changes meaningless, wearisome toil into spiritual productivity and purpose.
